The ‘Jungle Book’ Musical
A 100-year-old story in a magical musical for the whole family
‘The Jungle Book’ is an authentic musical show about innocence. The Acting Dream Musical Theater cannot wait to guide you on this thrilling adventure of the friendship between the little boy Mowgli and the funny, tamed beasts of the jungle.
“Don’t try to prove anything to anyone! Try to be the best at what you do, but do it for yourself! Be happy and you will certainly bring happiness to those around you! Let the child in you express itself whenever he feels the need! Mowgli exists in all of us. This is the true harmony of life!“.

The Project’s Story
The Jungle Book – crazy courage, wonderful “foolishness”. But that was the beauty and the magic of this project. To start such a journey with an army of children is pure madness. First, there was the Acting Dream Academy, the musical theatre school, born out of the desire to build something new, something that would represent us completely. The purpose of the school was to prepare children and teenagers, at a high level, and then to produce children’s theatre shows.
After almost three years of teaching these kids, we really felt the need for a project that matched their preparation. For two months we searched for a show that we could create together. It wasn’t easy to find, because we wanted to involve everyone in the school. Shortly after the Acting Dream Academy was created – because we already had a school production, and because we could see how the kids were growing and what they were capable of – we started to dream of an independent musical theatre. It didn’t come along immediately, because it would have been impossible, and we don’t like to force things. It came to life just when we needed it. The Acting Dream Theater was born at the same time as “The Jungle Book”.
What followed is one of the most beautiful experiences that could have happened to us. Emotions that everyone needs to feel on a personal level. We experienced the whole array of feelings, from despair to euphoria. We enjoyed every moment of this adventure, no matter how difficult.
The Jungle Book – a 100-year-old story in a magical musical for the whole family
A show born out of the need for change, dreamed by two people who were constantly searching for something new, was beginning to take shape with each day. When we were joined by all the others who trusted us and the project, we felt like we were flying. Although the title we chose is not a new one, the way we are reinventing it is unexpected and that makes it unique.
When you give love and you do everything out of love, things never fail to change, and dedicated people never fail to appear.
This project couldn’t have existed without every single person from our team.

Students of Acting Dream Academy Theater School
The show’s team
Ever since she graduated from the National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, her restless and searching mind found its place in the freedom of independent theatre. The projects she took part in shaped her as an artist and her most important encounter was probably with musical theatre. She understood then that it was the kind of theatre where she could best express herself. The passion for music, born in her childhood years, was reignited by the discovery of this genre, and she had the opportunity to take part in several musical shows created in Romania.
Considering the cast of “The Jungle Book”, her presence in the show’s production team is not accidental. In 2015, Adriana founded the first musical theatre school for children and teenagers, Acting Dream Academy, created to produce musical shows at a professional level.
“To be an actor or a director, you need humility, generosity, dedication, passion, fire in your heart, and a lot of work. Otherwise, you only do it superficially.
My growing experience in the last few years and the results of those I have helped as a teacher made me understand the important things I can do for people. Through acting, I can help them discover ways of self-expression which, most of the time, they are not aware of. It’s important to show the others what it means to desire something and not allow stubbornness to kill your joy of creating.
I don’t have special methods and I don’t judge. I just fully dedicate myself to what I do and I pay a lot of attention to details. I love to work with children, but I am not an easy-going teacher. On the contrary, I am strict and demanding, because I want a high-level, professional result. I know that this “treatment”, which I used on “The Jungle Book” as well, motivates artists. The results I got from these children fulfill me in a profound way. I am happy to see that they understood what personal fulfillment this work can bring. As everything has to start somewhere, the role of assistant director was a new one for me, and it fit me perfectly. I am glad I had the privilege to discover this new perspective, in such a complex project. When a director as frank as Edi offers you a show like that, you can only learn every day. The entire team is very strong. A team of beautiful people, who have a common purpose. I know and I feel that we’re not going to stop here, this is only the beginning.”

A complex artist, passionate about musical theatre, Eduard Jighirgiu writes music for theatre and has been creating children’s shows for over 10 years. The first musical he worked on was “Snow White”, directed by Cornel Todea – in 2007, at the Ion Creangă Theatre. Since then, tens of other shows followed, for children as well as adults. When he composes music for theatre, Eduard doesn’t forget that he is an actor, and this helps the artists who interpret the music to make it their own. With a perfect blend of emotion, joy and intensity, his music delivers messages that you cannot help but resonate with, as a spectator.
The novelty of this show is not necessarily its subject, but rather the way everything is “packaged” in order to reach the audience’s heart.
After almost 20 years’ experience in children’s theatre, the role of Shere Khan is an immense challenge for Eduard. This is the first time that he is acting on a stage surrounded by the innocence and purity of children.
“When I am working on a show, whether as an actor, a director or a composer, I always choose simplicity. Only simplicity can create extraordinary things. I feel very comfortable allowing the joy of playing to dominate me, because this helps me discover new things all the time. Although “The Jungle Book” is a very well-known story, I wanted to present it to the audience in an original way, as they have never seen it before. I kept the story, but I chose a new way of developing it, by turning whole narrative passages into sung arias. I wanted the show to be very alive and authentic. The story allowed me to turn it into a musical, with everything that this genre entails.
I couldn’t have worked on such a project without a wonderful production team, who would complete me so well. The cast of the show couldn’t have been more inspired: these beautiful children whom I was happy to take in my arms every day. I think this harmony is what creates the beauty of the show. My deepest wish is that “The Jungle Book” inspires the same emotions I felt when I created it, and that it brings joy to as many souls as possible.”

An accomplished artist with a fabulous stage experience, in Romania as well as abroad, a pedagogue who sounds almost like a character from Ion Creangă’s stories, a true universal encyclopedia, Claudia Măru Hanghiuc is one of the greatest personalities of the musical theatre world that we’ve had the privilege to meet.
She began her artistic career in 1975, as an actress at the Al. Davilla Theatre in Piteşti, then as a mezzosoprano at the Lyric Theatre in Craiova, the National Opera in Iaşi, the Opera and Ballet Theatre Oleg Danovski in Constanţa, and then as a first soloist at the National Bucharest Opera and the Operetta & Musical Theatre Ion Dacian.
She also starred in big productions on some of the world’s biggest stages, in Germany, Spain, Australia, Finland, Italy and the United States of America.
Since musical theatre had always been her passion, she wanted to perfect her method. After years of searching and experimenting, she discovered breathing techniques and vocalizing methods for theatre, which are so spectacular and yet so simple, thus becoming a helpful tool for the artist. The research into this field led her to become a professor of musical theatre. The successes of her former students, in renowned international schools and theatres, as well as the results of her current students confirm her great merits as a pedagogue.
We could write several volumes about Claudia Măru Hanghiuc. Beyond her worth as an artist, it is her qualities as a human being that best describe her. It is possibly the most important aspect when working with people, and especially with children. Her generosity and dedication in teaching children, who adore her, the art of singing, make her unique and prompt us to say that she “does wonders”.
“A people without culture lacks education! A people without education lacks decency! A people without culture and music education is ignorant and uneducated!”

With an impressive resumé in the dance and showbiz world, Edi Stancu seems to have been born dancing. He coordinated the ballet ensemble of the TV show “Dancing with the Stars” for several years, as well as working on personal projects. Some time ago, Edi discovered the theatre world and, with it, a different approach to dance. His joyous nature and incredible playfulness attract other artists. Ambitious and inspiring, extraordinarily generous, Edi manages to spread energy and emotion all around him.
“Working with children is not the easiest thing in the world. But the results you can get from them are fantastic. Children are full of energy and very frank. They have a deeper emotional dedication. We motivate one another all the time. I’ve always dreamed of such a project, a show with and about kids. “The Jungle Book” appeared at the right time. I feel very comfortable working with children. I think this project fits me like a glove.”

“Just as I had accepted the impossibility of entering an apparently closed world, that of fashion design, I made the journey from psychology to fashion, by undertaking a masters degree in this field. And, since the artistic direction of the school was to push our creativity more towards the area of set design and costumes, rather than the commercial aspect, I discovered a place where I can be myself: the world of characters. “The Jungle Book” was a challenge in this respect. I wanted my costumes to illustrate personalities and typologies, so that, just by appearing on the stage, they would express more than a long set of lines. I hope that each costume reaches its purpose and draws us all into Mowgli’s world.”

“I was drawn to the world of fashion design from a very young age, in my grandmother’s workshop. I was lovingly given the freedom to create and I grew up designing clothes for myself and my dolls.
I’ve always felt that we can create beauty with the help of clothing. I’ve supported any esthetic idea which encompasses the joy of offering a smile to those around us. I hope that each costume in “The Jungle Book” has this effect: to bring happiness and suggest a return to childhood, to the world of stories.”
